Q. I AM NOT VERY FIT… WILL THAT BE A PROBLEM?
A. A lot of people think they will get fit and THEN come training, but that’s the wrong way to do it!! Our training is built around progressive development of skills and fitness. Training with us will get you fitter in a relatively short period. We don’t force you to train beyond your fitness levels but encourage you to push yourself. You can work at any pace that suits you and as you get fitter you will notice your stamina improves!!
Q. I AM NOT FLEXIBLE AT ALL! CAN I STILL LEARN MARTIAL ARTS?
A. Absolutely!! While we work on improving flexibility, it isn’t a major concern! Our art is focused on self defence so we use low kicks mostly. Flexibility will help you with life and sport in general but isn’t essential for this art.
Q. DO WE USE WEAPONS?
A. At our academy we don’t use weapons at an early stage. They are used at a more advanced level once we are sure of the ability of the students.
Q. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A BLACK BELT?
A. That totally depends on how much you train. It takes 4-5 years (training twice a week) to become a black belt, providing you pass every grading examination.
Q. WHEN DO I BUY A TRAINING SUIT?
A. It is recommended that you purchase a suit when you are sure that training with us is for you. We have a few different options, so we use a t-shirt to start with, and the uniform comes later as we develop into more advanced techniques. As soon as you’re ready for a suit please speak to the instructor and you will have one for the next lesson.
Q. DO I HAVE TO TELL SOMEONE IF I’M NOT FEELING VERY WELL OR HAVE AN INJURY?
A. Please ensure that you inform the instructor that is teaching you and that you have taken the correct medication. If it is a long term illness then you must inform the instructor as soon as possible. We try to work round any long term injuries if possible, so that you can still perform to your maximum ability and capability. It is recommended you don’t miss sessions even if ill or injured so you can still learn by watching, and don’t miss any new instruction.
Q. IS TRAINING FULL CONTACT?
A. Yes and no. Many students who want to train come to train to get fit and to be associated to the sport. If you would like to take your training/experience to the next level, our advanced students and instructors can help you achieve this. Initially training is low or light contact, and develops as you progress.
Q. WHERE CAN I BUY ALL MY EQUIPMENT FROM?
A. At our academy we carry a stock of Martial Arts uniforms, sparring equipment and training equipment. Please ask the instructor for prices.
